This is an increase of 1,217 multi-family housing starts for the same time last year.

The current inventory of housing begins for the period from January to October 2010 stands at 8,221. This is a 70% increase in the housing starts inventory over last year.

According to the most recent Housing Price Index, Calgary seems to be following Montreal’s lead in home property price rises among key Canadian Cities. Experts believe that the price rise in Calgary and Montreal is due to shifting property development to new areas and locations that attract higher land development fees.
The contrasting fortunes and roles of players and stakeholders in the single-detached property segment are somewhat tempering this major event in row housing. Latest figures show a 31% drop in the number home units that were built in October 2010. The depressed state of the single-detached property segment can be seen in the shifting of focus of Calgary’s home interior designers from this segment to row housing. This is the third consecutive drop in this segment. Parallel to this market event is the decline in ongoing home development projects. More home developers are leaving the market.
